A charity half-marathon Namtumbo Selous Marathon 2017, organized by Tanzania Athletics Federation and Namtumbo City Administration and supported by Uranium One and Mantra Tanzania (part of Uranium One, the international mining division of ROSATOM) took place on November 11 in Namtumbo (Tanzania). The sports event was held in order to raise funds for completion of construction and fitting of the district hospital, which will be able to serve over 200 thousand people in the future.

In total, three races of 2.5 km, 5 km and 21 km took place. More than 200 runners participated in the races, including representatives of Tanzanian authorities, professional athletes and amateurs, and physically challenged athletes. The international Uranium One’s team was represented by the runners from six countries - Russia, Tanzania, Republic of South Africa, Canada, the USA, and Kazakhstan.

Tulia Ackson, deputy speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania and the Guest of Honor of the marathon, took part in the 5 km race. She said: "I am very glad that today we showed our solidarity and I am very grateful to all the people who participated in this event, as well as to all of those who took part in the fundraising." Tulia Ackson also thanked ROSATOM and its Uranium One division for organizing the event at a high level. The Parliament of Tanzania was also represented Joseph Mhagama, Edwin Ngonyani, Sixtus Mapunda and Daim Mpakate – members of the Parliament from the Ruvuma region.

"Development of local communities and support for initiatives aimed at the improvement of healthcare, education and quality of life is one of the key areas of corporate social responsibility in the regions of our footprint. We strive for close interaction and cooperation with our Tanzanian colleagues in all spheres", - said Vasily Konstantinov, President of Uranium One Group.
